The first sorting plant for domestic waste in Baku - Azerbaijan

Karlstadt. Today, for most industrialized countries waste disposal by means of sorting and recycling systems is the normal way to deal with waste. As for Azerbaijan, however, such techniques are still in their infancy. For this reason, shaping an efficient waste sorting concept is one of the most important government-launched projects of the emerging Caucasus republic. Now, the first waste sorting plant of Azerbaijan has been put into operation. In the first week in December, the plant was officially handed over by Adelmann Umwelt GmbH’s CEO, Mr Hubert Zufrass, to the operating company Tamiz Shahar in the presence of representatives of the Azerbaijan government. The company’s name is self-explanatory: the English translation of “Tamiz Shahar” is “clean city”.

With this cutting-edge plant, 200,000 tons of communal domestic waste p.a., mainly from the Baku area, can be sorted, and hereof recovered important recyclable materials can be returned to the reproduction process. This plant marks an important stage for the solution of problems associated with waste, both from the economic and ecological point of view. It forms the basis for a sustainable waste disposal concept for the whole of Azerbaijan.

During the procurement process, Adelmann was able to convince with their technical competence as well as their outstanding advice and services. At the time of the handover of the waste sorting plant it was agreed that the Karlstadt-based company will also in future play a decisive role when it comes to shaping the country‘s disposal concepts.

Adelmann Umwelt GmbH will contribute to strengthen Azerbaijan’s role model function for the entire Caucasus region and Central Asia in the area of waste disposal”.
